Video is such an important part of building an online business. But it can be pretty intimidating. What if people judge me? What if no one watches? What if I don’t have the right setup to start even though I want to? If you’re guilty of using these questions to start creating video content then this episode is for you!

  • Shania tells us about herself and her background 
    • A business and video coach who helps new coaches, VAs and Social Media Managers build authority online using video and other types of content
    • Even as an introvert, Shania loved making youtube videos for her friends and family 
    • Helping fellow introverts overcome their fears and leverage video marketing  

[04:21 – 11:46] Why Are People So Afraid of Video? 

  • The innate vulnerability with video
    • A lot of people put pressure on themselves to act a certain way in order for people to perceive them a certain way
    • You will never be able to please EVERYBODY 
  • When you’re too focused on pleasing everyone in the room, you end up straying away from focusing on your ideal client. The goal isn’t to win everyone over, the goal is to build a relationship with your target audience 
  • Perfection can backfire
    • While a lot of people think our video’s need to look super polished and perfect, they can often look robotic and unrelatable 
    • We can all do a better job at being our authentic selves

[11:47 – 15:59] Tools and Equipment We Can Use for Video 

  • You do NOT need to wait to have the fanciest, top-notch equipment to start. Don’t use the lack of high-quality equipment as an excuse to delay
  • You most likely have access to equipment that you can start with 
    • Camera: Your phone camera 
    • Microphone: Use the microphone from your AirPods or headset 
    • Lighting: Film by a window and use natural lighting 
  • Shania’s advice is to not worry about having the right equipment and instead be savvy with what’s available for you. Use everything to your benefit until you start to feel more comfortable and confident. Once you’re committed, then begin investing in equipment. 

[16:00 – 24:39] Strategizing Your Videos and Content  

  • How often we should get on video 
    • Depending on your comfort level, Shania advises to start hopping on video at least once a week and build your confidence
    • If you’re super shy, create a close friends list on Instagram and practice with that smaller group of people 
  • How do we create our video strategy?
    • What do you want your videos to achieve?
    • Attract views: Create how-to or educational content
    • Attract clients: Dig deep into what your ideal clients are struggling with, and what’s keeping them up at night
    • Share personal content in order for your audience to relate to you. Shania likes to ask herself at the beginning and end of every day is, “How did my audience relate to me today?” 

[24:40 – 33:01] Getting People to Show Up   

  • Tools we can use on Instagram to boost attendance and views 
    • The countdown timer on Stories 
    • Tease what you’ll be talking about 
  • Should our videos only solve one problem at a time? 
    • If you’re doing a long-form video like a webinar, solve problems that fall under the same umbrella 
  • Don’t forget to utilize and recycle past content!

  • Video really has the potential to blow up your business, increase your visibility, and help you connect with your ideal clients. On the flip side, it can be absolutely terrifying being on video, especially if it’s not something that you’re used to. So just know that it’s a journey. Keep making progress!
