5 Steps to Set up your Social Profiles

Are you wondering what you need to focus on when setting up your social media business profiles and what to post on each channel you pick?

Don’t worry, I got you.

The focus will be on the four major social media channels namely Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter. There are plenty of others, but I my fingers might go numb from typing if I include them all! Let’s dive on in.

Setting Up Your Social Media Business Profiles

1. Pick a Social Media Channel

Start by picking a platform that aligns with your image and goals. The platform you pick should be one where your audience is most active.

Pick the platform that feels most natural to you.

Next, have a segmentation strategy; this will help you get the most out of your platform of choice.

Finally, to avoid overwhelm for yourself/team, commit to consistent posting days. You can add platforms as you go. The key is to focus on one or two platforms at a time when you’re starting out and especially if you’re working solo.

2. Pay Attention to Your Visual Branding

Make your branding consistent across all the social media channels you pick.

You can maintain a consistent visual brand by choosing a color palette and ensuring that every piece of graphic you create carries the colors on your logo, this way people can associate those colors with your brand. You haven’t downloaded your custom brand board yet, you can do so here.

Use the same logo all throughout your content, keep your filters consistent and create templates in places like Canva for any graphics you’ll share on your social media business profiles. The key is to keep your brand consistent across your channels of choice.

3. Develop Your Brand Voice

A good way to tap into this is by considering your business culture, your tone of voice, audience and the uniqueness you want your audience to recognize you for, which is why it is important that you don’t “copy and paste” a brand you admire. Think of answering questions like, what is my purpose, who do I serve, and what solutions do I offer and how do I genuinely speak about these things.

Keeping your tone of voice consistent with the way you would speak if you were sipping coffee across from a friend or grabbing drinks with your girls helps your followers relate to you more.

4. Be Consistent with Your Topics and Post Regularly

Set up your goals and objectives  – make them specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely – and then come up with consistent topics which you’ll be posting on your channels regularly.

Research your competition to get insight into what’s working and what is not. Check how other businesses are doing and get inspiration, then create a social media calendar to help you post the right content that will help you build a raving tribe.

Don’t forget, having a strategy or guideline for your topics will help you stay on track and avoid the ‘shiny object’ syndrome.

5. Use the Right Keywords in Your Bio

Let your bio clearly define what you do and for who. If you’re a social media manager, make sure to use the term “social media manager” in your bio, this will help your audience to know what you do and why they should stick around.

And, finally…

Although all social media platforms are important, they are not all created equal.  Decide on the right platform for your business, understand how people there consume content and then go and create that content for them consistently!
