You’re nervous your course launch will fall flat.
Maybe just a few people will buy it…
What if you take action and there is nothing to show for it?
We’ve all experienced the fear behind the failure to launch…
But, the only way to improve your launches is to do one in the first place. You’ve got to just pull off the band-aid and launch!
First…let’s make sure you are in the right headspace.
A Healthy Launch Mindset
The truth of the matter is, you have to be okay with your launch falling flat WHILE at the same time, expecting it to go amazingly well. I know that seems like a hard contradiction, but it’s the mindset that you need moving forward with a launch. Making sure that you’re assuming the best, but ready to troubleshoot if the “worst” happens is going to be critical to your state of mind, and success, during the launch.
Get Comfortable With The Data
I am a data driven girl. The truth is in the numbers…always. As an ads strategist, I am regularly looking at cost per lead. As a funnel strategist, I look at cost per conversion….which is data you won’t have if you don’t ever make your offer and do an actual launch.
However, once you have your first launch under your belt you can start making some real decisions.
You will know your cost per lead, your conversion rate, and how well all of the pieces of the funnel work. This will help you get LASER focused for your next launch with super-specific lead generation goals that ultimately lead to better results.
If your mindset isn’t in check, then you are likely to make rash decisions that can hurt the long-term health of your business. So, making sure you start off with the right mindset is critical to keeping a cool head during the process.
Additionally, you will have insights into your opt-rates leading up to a launch, your drop off rate during your open cart period and your ideal client’s objections. Again… all of this data will come from actually doing the thing… not just waiting for everything to be perfect!
So, how do you know when you’re ready to launch?
You’ve Built Your List
As a course creator your email list is a fundamental building block to get you going. While there is no magic number, you do want to take into consideration that a 5% conversion rate is not abnormal for a first launch. That means if there are 100 people on your list, you will convert 5.
However, if you’ve got a list that is engaged, highly warmed up with great content, and a good fit for your offer, you can see a WAY higher conversion rate, even the first time around. There is no specific list size that indicates whether you are ready, just make sure your expectations are realistic. If you want bigger numbers because you are selling a low priced offer, then you are going to need a bigger list. So… make sure your goals line up with the number of leads currently in your ecosystem!
You’ve Built Some Buzz
You’ve seeded your offer. You’ve teased on your live videos, you’ve talked about what you’re working on in your emails. You’ve dropped hints on social media. You’ve got people curious and there is some anticipation stirring. This is really important prior to a launch and takes no money, and very little time!
You’ve Got an Early Bird Incentive
Adding in an early-bird bonus for those that purchase in the first two days will help put a little fire under fence-sitters, and give you a confidence boost early on. If you haven’t yet figured out what your early bird incentive will be, get busy thinking of something so juicy your people won’t be able to resist clicking that BUY NOW button.
Your incentive doesn’t have to be huge. Consider how you can give your people a quick win, more access to you, or a complementary offer that fits with your main offer.
You’ve Run a Beta Round
You’ve tested your offer with some clients going through it for free or for a discounted rate. You’ve probably done this by personally inviting people who would be a good fit, not necessarily through a full-blown launch.
Your beta round has helped you gather your testimonials and you now have some killer social proof.
If you haven’t done that yet, then consider making your first launch a beta-round. Let people know they are getting the best possible deal, and that at the end you will be asking for feedback to help you improve the course.
If you haven’t done any of these things yet, then NOW is the perfect time to start, so you can launch in a few weeks!
If you’ve done all of the above, then it’s time friend! No more waiting. No more, “I just need to_________.” It’s time to take what you’ve got and give it a go. Remember your first launch is going to be your baseline of data. So – do the very best you can, then regroup, tweak, and launch again!
AND…remember practice makes perfect, so launch baby launch!
